Strengthening East African Cooperation Through Strategic Communications

Event: Panel at PRSK Annual General Meeting

Location: Mombasa, Kenya (Nov 2022)
My Role: Guest speaker & panellist, invited as founding President of PRST

What I Did:

  • I led a deep-dive discussion on the responsibility of communication professionals in fortifying the East African Community (EAC).
  • Together with Mr Aasah Mwambene (PRST President) and Mr Awino Gilbert (PRSK Board Chair), I unpacked:
  1. How communicators drive regional development.
  2. Core duties of Public Relations Officers within the EAC bloc.
  3. Key communication challenges facing the region.
  4. Joint solutions for cross-border messaging.
  5. Why Kiswahili must take centre stage in corporate and public sector communications.

Outcome: Sparked a roadmap for cross-association collaboration and positioned Kiswahili as a unifying brand asset for EAC bodies.

My Role: Expert commentator

What I Did: I shared insights on strategic communication trends and crisis management across African markets, offering real-world examples from my PRST tenure.

Outcome: Elevated regional discourse on professional PR practice and boosted my personal media footprint.

Championing Strategic Communications in Africa

Event: PRSK Leadership Dialogue 

Location: Nairobi, Kenya (Dec 2019)
My Role: Keynote speaker representing PRST

What I Did: I delivered a keynote on “Building Resilient African Brands Through Strategic Communication.” Topics included data-driven storytelling and crisis readiness for emerging markets.

Outcome: Strengthened PRST–PRSK ties and secured invitations to mentor rising PR professionals across East Africa.

Milestone: Formal signing with PR presidents of Kenya & Uganda

My Role: Co-signatory & Tanzanian representative

What I Did:

  • Initiated and co-drafted the Memorandum of Understanding to revive EAPRA, creating a unified regional platform for PR standards and continuous professional development.
  • Negotiated shared governance structures and annual CPD targets.

Outcome: Official launch of EAPRA, expanding professional collaboration across three nations
